That one singular moment alone made the story even more worthwhile than it already did.DC Studios co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran announced DC’s new programming slate, which includes a Wonder Woman prequel series, Peacemaker spinoff, and more. There was one particular moment towards the end that I wanted to know if it actually happened in real life and for from what I have read it did. It is a thoroughly engaging docudrama that will definitely have you check up on the real events that happened if you weren't aware of it as I was. Love it or hate it, I never found myself disinterested watching this movie. Gavin Hood hit it out of the park with this one and Keira Knightly is excellent as well. This was the film that I wished Oliver Stone's Snowden could have been. THE GOOD: All that said, I think Official Secrets is a fantastic political drama-thriller that fills the much needed void in a nearly forgetten genre that was so prevalent in the 70s. It was like if The Social Network kept on going after the epilogue captions and ended with Eduardo's animal abuse story getting a resolution. Yes, Katherine was certainly responsible for setting most of the events in motion but the film also likes to show every single person that had a part to play in the larger scheme of things. But I would like to argue that this isn't just her story. I am not saying that is a flaw technically but I can definitely see a lot of people having issue with it. In other words the movie is more about the plot than it is with it's characters. This is a film that is largely concerned with showing us the incredible series of events that occured than it does with fully fleshing out it's characters. THE BAD: Anyone going into this movie expecting a full blown character study about Katherine Gunn are going to leave disappointed.
