She explained that both carriers classify first responders via the North American Industry Classification System ( NAICS). "As a result of this platform you'll be able to do amazing things with your mobile devices that you've never thought of," he said.Hallbach said one reason why the total first responder market is growing is possibly because AT&T defines “first responder” much more widely than Verizon. Schmidt promised that Android would start "a whole wave of innovation and set of industry initiatives we can't even foresee." "Android would run very well on that network," Schmidt said during the conference call.Īnd Google isn't just envisioning mobile phones. So what's next? Google executives also have said they will probably bid on the 700MHz spectrum auction early next year, which will give mobile users another conduit for the Internet and its own services. Oppenheimer estimates that Google's mobile ad revenues will be anywhere from $2.1 billion to $4.8 billion per year after two or three years, and as much as $10 billion annually after that. But mobile devices represent the next "big thing" for Google, unchartered territory whose development for Web services and applications has been restrained by carriers and hardware makers who fear losing their control. Since dominating the search market and the online ad market, Google has been quickly expanding into other areas, including hosted Web apps, like Google Docs & Spreadsheets and Calendar. "So one of our clear goals was to find a way and have a platform (to) deliver Google services, Google content, and Google search into those markets, and the mobile phone is going to clearly become much more of a development platform." "There is a good chance that the number of potential consumers of Google?may never have a PC," said Rich Miner, who heads up Google's wireless strategy and was a co-founder of Android. Google executives are thinking along the same lines. That's the right motivation for Google," said Ken Dulaney, vice president of mobile computing at Gartner. That's double the number of people who use the wired Internet today. "There are 2.5 billion mobile phone users in the world. Not only are more mobile phones being sold now than desktop computers, but many people in developing countries will end up using a mobile device before they ever touch a PC. But there is limited growth potential for the desktop market. Right now, Google is the most popular search engine and makes the most money off advertising on the Web. If it doesn't gain traction by the end of next year (the first phones using it should be available in the first half of 2008), Wall Street finally notice Google has had difficulty breaking out of its admittedly sizeable niche. Indeed, with the Internet ad business running like an ATM, few have noticed that initiatives such as the Orkut social network and Google Checkout haven't yet amounted to much. Of course, all this comes with a big caveat: For all its success in search and advertising, it's not clear how well Google's many other initiatives are doing. Google won't become a hardware manufacturer, "but the opportunity to have a phone in the marketplace that bypasses existing standard operating procedures and creates a direct connection to consumers, that certainly makes sense," he said. Google executives "had every opportunity to say 'we are not introducing a Google Phone' and they did not say that," said Derek Brown, an analyst at Cantor Fitzgerald. But prognosticators are still reading between the lines.

These workflows use a series of actions to speed up or automate repetitive tasks. Launch the shortcut with a tap or a voice command, and ChatGPT will be at your disposal. Shortcuts are workflows that allow you to do things quickly on your iPhone. If you’d like to launch this shortcut using your voice, you’ll probably want to rename it to something simpler-do so by pressing and holding it, then picking Rename. In the Shortcuts app, select Set Up Shortcut, paste or type in your API key, and choose Add Shortcut. With the key in hand, open the SiriGPT shortcut in your iPhone’s web browser and tap Get Shortcut. The Reading Mode shortcut starts by asking you how long you’d like to read for. The download for the iPad worked, AND it looked like it might work on the 10.12.6 version of the App store, but then it came back with a different error message: "Pages cannot be updated because it was refunded or purchased with a different Apple ID." Which is one of the most confusing, nonsensical error messages I've seen in quite a while! So I tried to download a new(er) version for my iPad mini. In my case I'd already purchased Pages for iPad back in 2014, for $10, in addition to my buying it as part of iWork '08 AND iWork '09 on the Mac. I like to be prepared!Ĭlick to expand.Hello NoBoMac, that's an interesting idea, so I tried it! This is similar to what Apple has done with their hidden recovery partition, but mine is loaded with more apps for repairing & managing disks, like DiskWarrior and Carbon Copy Cloner. Currently I've got the SSD split into two equal partitions for the old and new systems, and one of the partitions of my physical hard drive is a 25 GB bootable partition I call "LifeBoat", which is an emergency boot drive loaded with disk repair utilities. This old 2012 MacBook Pro supports two internal drives (one in the old optical drive slot), so I've got a 2TB hard drive in one and a 500 GB SSD in the other. For the moment I can boot into either the new or the old, and I'm aiming to make a bootable backup of the bare-bones Catalina (which is currently only 17.4 GB) before I invoke the migration assistant, and finally say goodbye to 10.12 Sierra. It's nice to have your mas solution as a backup, but my iWork '09 serial number OUGHT to be adequate proof.īy the way, I'm really glad I have a separate partition for the new OS. I think I'll try another chat with an Apple Rep, in the hope that they'll acknowledge my past purchase of iWork within the app store. I told her explicitly that I'd purchased iWork before the app store existed, but maybe she didn't realize that the app store would therefore have no record of my owning iWork. The apple rep I'd spoken to was wrong on both counts: iWork wasn't downloaded automatically, and once I'd booted into Catalina the app store there gave me error messages that I'd need to upgrade to MacOS 11 before I'd be able to get any of the iWork apps. So I ended up using perhaps the same stub installer that you did, from the app store. I've also installed my iWork '09 apps into the virtual machine I've already got for running Snow Leopard (Mac OS 10.6.8).Ĭlick to expand. My installation ground to a halt because I'd downloaded the installer from a website called ISORIVER, and it didn't pass the security checks: "the identity of the developer cannot be confirmed." I'll do this on a blank partition, to avoid any risk to my working bootable partition. Since arranging for a strong and stable internet connection for a day would involve a lot of delays and effort, I'm going to try a clean installation from the installer I have, and see what I end up with. She also said that some installers would include all the needed files, while others would need to download things. Maybe some methods of invoking the upgrade would work while others wouldn't, but she didn't give any particular instructions for this, other than insuring a good internet connection. It sounds like her claim is contradicted by your experience of upgrading to Catalina, since you didn't automatically end up with the iWork apps installed after the upgrade. Unfortunately my only internet connection is through a cell phone network, which has reasonable speeds but maxes out at 3 GB per day! Her comment to that was: "That might not work." During a recent bit of travel I'd made a point of downloading a Catalina installer, which weighs in at 8.1 GB. I asked her specifically if the iWork apps were built into the installer, and she replied that was correct, but I'd need a strong and stable WiFi or cable connection. She told me that during the update of Mac OS to Catalina, it will also install all the iWork apps that are compatible with the new Mac OS. I have an update about another approach that's supposed to work, according to an Apple representative that I had a long digital chat with. Hello Troyf, and thanks a lot for sharing this solution - it looks very promising! Of course, iPadOS 16.2 and iOS 16.2 are needed for cross-platform support. I use a cheap NVMe SSD in a 10Gbps USB-C enclosure-not this exact one, but one like it. These are the Macs on which you’ll be able to run macOS Sonoma. All that’s necessary to get the new application is install macOS Ventura 13.1. Any external SSD attached over a 5Gbps or 10Gbps USB connection or the Thunderbolt bus should feel fast enough for most things. Step 4: Follow the on screen installer setup. Select your startup disk, then press and hold the Shift key while clicking Continue in Safe Mode. Step 3: Select Bootable Installer Flash drive, and Click on Continue option. Turn on your Mac and continue to press and hold the power button until you see the startup options window. until you see the Startup Volumes window with Options on Screen. Mac users with limited internal storage might want to change that to an external drive to save space, since the default disk size for new macOS VMs is 64GB. Step 2: Restart the Mac and press and hold the Power Button Touch ID button. And more is better, especially if you'll also be running heavy apps like Xcode alongside (or inside) your VM.īy default, VirtualBuddy keeps all of its files (including VM disk images) in a folder at ~/Library/Application Support/VirtualBuddy. Personally, I wouldn't recommend trying to virtualize macOS on an Apple Silicon Mac with less than 16GB of RAM. But you'll be running two entirely separate OSes on the same computer, and that comes with RAM and storage requirements. VirtualBuddy and the Virtualization framework don't have hard-and-fast requirements aside from requiring an Apple Silicon chip for macOS-on-macOS virtualization. You'll also want to pay attention to the hardware requirements for virtualization. In the list of apps that appear, click on iPhone & iPad Apps at the top. With the Xcode beta installed, everything works as intended (but if you can find a way to get this working without installing a 33GB app that takes an hour-plus to install, I'd love to know about it). Enter a search term or app name and hit Return. When I've tried this without Xcode installed, macOS has tried (and failed) to download extra software to make it work-sort of like how macOS needs to download additional software the first time you use Rosetta. With iPod 'sleeping' (screen off), if a sync is activated, iTunes pops out an error message (unknown error -25170), which I could also find. If you're looking to virtualize Ventura on top of Monterey, you'll want to install and run the beta version of Xcode 14 from Apple's developer site before you start. 12 Italy 2 Hi there, I confirm the issue. If you want to virtualize macOS Monterey on top of macOS Monterey, you won't have to download anything else. What did I mean by adamant? : Actually as a figure of speech taken from Merriam-Webster online dictionary "The Meaning and History of Adamant".Have Apple disclosed that it could be possible to locally install in their iPadPro device other programs, like Adobe Acrobat Pro DC in the near future, or even give any hopes to their community that it could be possible one day?: I don't know (Does anyone really knows?) Is this a viable soultion like shown in this video posted by an iPadPro user who wanted to run Windows10 virtualized in his device? YES So my answer to BJtheWaterman should be NO.īut, can a user be able to virtualize by connecting remotely to another client computer or virtual server with their iPad Pro? : YES It actually works with my forms, fill, sign etc.Ĭan you do that with the iPad Pro? NO, it is ARM architechture not AMD or Intel processors architechture to begin with. With Linux, I am able to deploy PlayOnLinux, Wine, CrossOver, or use snapd, as emulators and then be able to run a Windows 10 full offline standalone installer of Adobe Acrobat Reader DC. I am able to install and run Linux Mint or Ubuntu on it (including other OS's), and even install different versions of AndroidOS and Windows. In my personal case, I have a MacBook from 2010. That is what I was implying in an attempt to answer the original question " Is there a version of adobe that can be pushed with this capability, like one for the surface, used on tablet mode? " So when the Apple user gets stuck with the inability to unhide other capbilities in their expensive iPad Pro devices, without understanding Apple's current tight licensing and TOS, what exaclty could be defines as exploiting firmware, messing with the Boot ROM and/or decrypting the iBoot, to include all other sorts of injected bugs, "hackingtoshing" the iOS, and jailbreaking the device, is simply driving the community to look to the side to consider third-party alternatives to accomplish what they wish should work in such a nice device. In the same context, it seems like a growing curiosity in the Apple loyal customer fan base is feeling inclined more and more to the need of customizing their apps to do specific things. On the other hand, my whole point is that, the lack of flexibility that used to be natively more accessible in older Apple devices, is now becoming an issue for the hetero-tech-savy Apple community that wish to install or dual boot another operating system in that device, for example. Without specifying the differences above it creates an air of confusion of what is possible, what is limited, and what is simply not supported at all. There is a clear difference between server and desktop virtualization explained here. That is not the same as stating " they just connect to a remote computer." The fact that a user can remotely access another computer or a server is indeed a form of virtualization and by that virtue Apple do actually supports that virtualization in both hardware and software for the iPad and iPad Pro. I meant exactly what I said "Apple SEEMS to remain adamant in supporting things like." (this is not a definite or declarative statement of any kind). Since then, Lemke Software has been distributing iCalamus on its own - and will further develop the program. In May 2018 it was announced that the GraphicConverter manufacturer Lemke Software took over iCalamus. In March 2018, invers Software announced the cessation of its business operations and hence the distribution and development of iCalamus. Because of the similar name, it is often regarded as the new Calamus for Mac. ICalamus is often compared with InDesign, PageMaker and QuarkXPress in magazine reviews. The development of iCalamus 1.0 started in November 2003 and was completed with some delay in October 2006. There was the idea of a whole new layout application natively to write in Objective-C for Mac OS X. The port was too costly and lengthy to the developers. After invers Software had marketed and maintained the DTP software Calamus for various computer platforms since 1996, at latest in 2001, after the takeover of the Calamus program rights, the question came up whether Calamus should still be maintained as a native Atari application or better be ported to Windows or Mac OS. The fingerprint technology works very well. Setup was pretty easy, despite my "normally intimidated by new technology" perspective. However, ease of access is equally important, otherwise what's the point in having a weapon if you can't get to it? I use the fingerprint slide several times a week and am only on the second battery of the year since I bought this. We have children so having weapons locked up is fundamental to me. Trending review: "This is my first small gun safe purchase of any kind. Love it and would definitely recommend this safe." - Samantha Kingsley BUT it keeps it from dying, always being awake and waiting for input. You do have to wake it first with a button or thumb swipe BEFORE starting your combo, so that can be confusing sometimes. It’s easy to set up the fingerprints, and it's never failed to open yet either. We have a Springfield XD Mod 2 which is a small compact 9mm pistol, but this box could easily fit larger pistols and ammo! We fit the gun, the extra clip, an ammo box, AND an LED motion detector light in it. BUT there is a different flashing pattern and he soon realized it was just locked out from our toddler for a short time. It does lock you out for a few minutes after enough failed tries, which caused us to think at one point the batteries were dead since my husband was trying to use it and it wouldn’t unlock and was all flashing red. On that note, it’s also been great because no amount of random poking by our toddler has caused it to open. I can say that at least for us, if you put in good quality batteries (we used Energizer Max ones) it has been holding up and lasting great in that department, and that’s with our toddler coming on and poking the buttons all the time because he likes to see the lights on it. My husband read tons of reviews on a lot of options, and despite rumors of bad battery life, we wanted to give this safe a try. We also wanted to still have it close by with easy access. Helpful review: "My husband and I have a toddler, and we really wanted a way to secure our firearm to make sure it stayed out of his wandering hands. Even the box it comes in gives off a high-end feel." - Ari Levine Function is what it’s all about, but I must admit that also the form is fantastic. As long as you put your finger in straight and hold it down against the surface, it seems like it will definitely function in adverse conditions. Dunked my finger in water, dragged it in dirt, and tried it multiple times each way. Any piece of hardware I get relating to my guns needs to be as durable. They’re handled rough and put through the paces. Since the marketing materials claim it's working with damaged skin, and even with debris and wet fingers, I made sure to try it out. It opens quickly and reliably, with a hydraulic shock lift. Let me report that it was easy enough to configure with the quick start guide. Vein recognition technology intrigued me, and since it has PIN and key access as well, I figured I’d try it out. I’ve wanted to get some kind of mini safe for a while, but have been waiting for a better keyless entry method. When it comes to accessing a gun, reliability is important. Dirt, dust or scrapes affect the reader negatively, and the finger always has to be 100% aligned, otherwise you’ll keep swiping your finger over and over and getting locked out. Helpful review: "My dad always had a pistol safe/vault with a fingerprint reader, but just like my old fingerprint log-in laptop, it’s finicky. All these dings on the design are minor and tolerable for our purposes, especially at this price point. The beep that sounds when you press a button is unreasonably *LOUD* so we disabled it by holding the '1' key down for 4 seconds. Why so loud? Pls fix! And the gas-assist door opens rapidly, almost violently, and can crash into the front of the cabinet if the drawer the safe is kept in isn’t opened enough. It holds a 6” revolver and a full size semi-auto with a little room to spare for ammo + 1 clip. Results: ZERO failures! The programmed fingers opened the safe and the wrong ones didn’t. Regarding the other features of the safe, it’s heavy and solid, although I could probably pry it open with the right tools in 10 minutes. If we discovered any inaccuracies, the safe would go straight back into the box and returned to Amazon. So after reading the instructions thoroughly (they are short, well-written, and provide steps to ensure the accuracy of the fingerprint reader), we programmed each adult member of the family’s fingerprints (index and thumb of both hands), we tested the reader repeatedly VS programmed fingers, the same person’s other fingers, and the fingers of our unauthorized kids. Helpful review: "We bought this safe with concern, having read a number of reviews reporting that the fingerprint reader allowed people who had never programmed their fingerprints to open the safe. |
